The video is one part of an installation made for an exhibition, designed to supplement and clarify the photographic series Insatiable Desire.

The series Insatiable Desire is a series where I focus on the behaviour of people near and in supermarkets.
When we enter supermarkets we rely on our MasterCard and for a while our identity is lost in consumption.

The two videos simulate a supermarket, both videos where screened as big as people are in life.

Established in such a way that you first see a video of a revolving door where people entered; and once you past.
You can see the video where people are choosing their meat.

The two videos where complemented by music, so the perception, imagination, and the surrendering of the situation was possible.

The video is made in st moritz ( switserland ), in addition to clarify the photographs.
The music that goes along with the video is La victoire est à nous ( La caravane du caire 1783 ) of André grétry, and is been used by La grand armée de Napoleon.

For the exposition i made a series of drawings. Consequent; i only used vertical stripes, with a black pen.

The people and mountains on the drawings are all from photographs i’ve taken in BANFF( Canada) – ST MORITZ ( Swiss) and AUSSOIS (France) 2014-2015.

i have been exploring this way of drawing in order to reduce all the information there is to be found in the images. It helped me to understand the enviroment of a skiresort, and the movements of the people in that environment.

Stephanie Van De Velde‘s photographs from ‘Away From The Individuals’ seek to strip away the social aspect of the individual and leave them bare in the face of natural forces, as statues, still, of themselves, to be seen without rancour. The changing perspectives of her pictures giving more or less aspect to her subjects as they play on a Belgian beach.
It’s an interesting exercise. They are of people yet not. The lens focusses in on individuals and groups, watches carefully yet captures them in a state of stillness as if wanting to preserve a sense of anthropological curiosity; how people connect, react, behave. How we see determines how we react. And it’s this essential human dynamic that Van De Velde explores with her camera. Her beautiful composition are both close ups and birds eye views of the same place, the same people, yet each photograph creates a different dynamic and sensibility. Our connection to her subjects moveable, from emotional to intellectual, depending on where we see them from.

This questioning of our relationship to the environment and the people that inhabit it is given voice in these beautiful black and white pictures, her photographs of a fun afternoon on a Belgian beach giving us an impetus to re-examine our own perception of the world around us. MORAY MAIR –
